Match the appearance of the numbers to your design.

1. Number format

In “Number definition”, choose the range or number count, then set leading zeros and additional text. Number format settings apply to all tabs.

Pad numbers with leading zeros
When enabled, the program adds zeros to the left of the number. It selects the digit count automatically; there is no separate field for specifying the number width.
Numbers from: 1 · Numbers to: 9991 → 0001
Text before the number / Text after the number
Enter text to appear before or after the number. The program joins these three parts without adding spaces or hyphens — enter any separators you need yourself.
Text before the number: VIP- · Text after the number: -A0001 → VIP-0001-A

Large print runs — splitting into smaller files

The number count and layout on the sheet affect the PDF page count. Documents with many thousands of pages can take a long time to process before printing starts and occupy printer resources for an extended period.

The background also affects processing time: high-resolution photos, complex artwork, and transparency. File size in megabytes alone does not always indicate how quickly it will print.

Keep numbering continuous and preserve the correct sheet order. For stacked numbering, plan the batches so the numbers form a continuous sequence after cutting and assembling the items.

2. Text appearance

In “Number formatting”, each of the four tabs corresponds to a separate print position on the same item. The same number value, with text before and after it, appears in these positions; font, size, color, position, alignment, and rotation can be set separately.

Font
Selects the typeface for the entire text, including text before and after the number. For example, Arial supports both digits and the text VIP-.
Font size [pt]
Enter the size in typographic points. Changing it from 14 to 20 enlarges the entire text without changing its content; it may take up more space in your design.
Color models / Colors
Choose CMYK or RGB for all tabs together. Set the color components separately in each tab; the PDF uses the values of the selected model.
CMYK: CYAN [%], MAGENTA [%], YELLOW [%], and BLACK [%], each from 0 to 100. Black text: 0 / 0 / 0 / 100.
RGB: RED (0-255), GREEN (0-255), and BLUE (0-255). Red text: 255 / 0 / 0; black: 0 / 0 / 0.

One letter — different “No” symbols

Crash Numbering Serif

In “Text before the number”, enter one of these uppercase letters: E, Q, R, T, or W. Add a space after the letter to separate the symbol from the number.

You enter

E + space

You get

The “No” symbol variant for the letter E, followed by the number 0001.

You enter

Q + space

You get

The “No” symbol variant for the letter Q, followed by the number 0001.

You enter

R + space

You get

The “No” symbol variant for the letter R, followed by the number 0001.

You enter

T + space

You get

The “No” symbol variant for the letter T, followed by the number 0001.

You enter

W + space

You get

The “No” symbol variant for the letter W, followed by the number 0001.

Result in the PDF

An ornamental “No” symbol produced by the letter R, followed by 0001 in Crash Numbering Serif.

For comparison: Arial

In Arial, E, Q, R, T, and W remain ordinary letters. To get “No”, enter “No” followed by a space.

Text before the number: R + space

R 0001

Text before the number: No + space

No 0001

Try Polish typefaces too

Match the numbering style to your design. Try Antykwa Półtawskiego or Antykwa Toruńska and compare their appearance in the examples below.

Antykwa Półtawskiego

Semi-condensed bold style (SemiCond Bold).

The text Nr 0125 in Antykwa Półtawskiego, in the semi-condensed bold style.
The same text, size, and color as in the adjacent example.
Antykwa Toruńska

Condensed bold style (Condensed Bold).

The text Nr 0125 in Antykwa Toruńska, in the condensed bold style.
The same text, size, and color as in the adjacent example.

Choose the appropriate typeface in the “Font” field and check the result in the generated PDF.

The samples show font styles available in the application. Their size on screen is illustrative and does not represent the print scale.

3. Position and orientation

Number position on the X axis [mm] / Number position on the Y axis [mm]
These set the print position relative to the item, in millimeters. Changing X from 10 to 20 moves this position 10 mm to the right. The Y-axis direction depends on “Coordinate origin”: with the top-left corner, Y increases downwards; with the bottom-left corner, it increases upwards.
Number alignment
“Left” places the start of the entire text at the specified position, “Center” places its center there, and “Right” places its end there. For example, with X = 50 mm and “Right” alignment, the right end of the text is at 50 mm.
Alignment also includes text before and after the number. Adding a prefix or changing the font or size changes the text width, so check its position in the resulting PDF.
Number rotation [°]
Rotates the entire text around the specified print position. 0° gives horizontal text, and 90° rotates it clockwise.

4. Example: VIP tickets

Set “Numbers from” to 1 and “Numbers to” to 999, and enable “Pad numbers with leading zeros”. Enter VIP- in “Text before the number” and -A in “Text after the number”. In the tab, choose Arial and a size of 20 pt.
